New Year, New Me!

As usual, we rang in the New Year with style - our own style! A long time ago, before we started "smothering my parents with grandchildren" (quote from Christmas - couldn't resist, Dad!!) we would get together with our dearest friends and spend the evening dipping various delectable treats in chocolate and chatting away while waiting for the New Year to finally arrive. This tradition started before Jay and I were even married and continued until after our son arrived, maybe even until after our second son arrived. However, with the continuation of our kids and the arrival of theirs, the tradition for us has changed to just include our family. We were hoping to make it happen again this year with the whole big clan but they were sick and have a brand-new-less-than-2-week-old baby girl in the house. Oh well! So, shirts off (uh, just the kids - though Jay would like to see that change to include me, too! Go figure!!) and chocolate on, our New Year now includes chocolate, fruit and marshmallows with our kids and a bedtime that precedes midnight! What a lot of fun!


I made sure to enjoy every ounce of chocolate I could possibly shove in my face seeing as I won't be indulging in some for another year! Yup, you read that right! So, in no particular order, here are my goals for 2010. Now, if you know me at all, I don't usually do this. I am not a New Year's Resolution kind of girl. I laugh at the people that make the goal on January 1 and break it on January 2 and again on January 3, etc. etc. I have been percolating these ideas for a while and I have a vast amount of determination soooooooooo:
  1. No sweets. That's right - no chocolate, no Kit Kat bars, no cheesecake, no Pepsi, no Saucy Hot Fudge Pudding, no homemade Hot Fudge Sauce to smother my icecream, no slurpies, no homemade iced tea - get the point??!!

  2. Run 500 miles. That sounds a little extreme, however, if you break it down, it is only 1.36986301369 miles per day or 9.61538461538 miles per week. Totally doable! Check out the running woman on the side to watch my progress.

  3. Lose weight! #1 and #2 should help with this. So will Jillian Michaels and Billy Blanks. One of the reasons I love being pregnant is because I don't worry about my weight. If I have a big tummy, it is for a reason. Now I have no excuse (and I don't consider 5 kids an excuse!!). So, by the time 2011 rolls around, I'd like you to see about 15 pounds less of me!

  4. Read through the entire Bible. I see this one as being the most difficult. I tend to get bogged down in Leviticus and Numbers. Something about all those lists. Okay, so if I get through most of the Bible, I will consider this done! After all, just watching the state of your physical being and ignoring the state of your spiritual being is pretty useless. Hell couldn't care less if you are thin.

There you have it. My goals for 2010. And I am so excited to see what this year brings. After all, in a house with 5 children aged 6 and under, excitement is always around the corner!

  1. I have a few comments! First of all, NO desserts in 2010 is much too stringent aren't you just setting yourself up for failure? - especially when you are such a genius cook as you are! Poor Jay! How about fewer?

    Secondly, there is a website which has a daily Bible reading plan to read through the Bible in a year which I've used a couple of times as a guide. It divides things up so you read the Psalms on Monday, History books on Tuesdays, Wisdom literature on Wednesdays, .... That way you don't get bogged down in Leviticus and Numbers!

  3. glutamine really helped me with the sugar and carb cravings... you can get it at the health store in town if you are interested. seriously made a big difference for me

  5. I too get bogged down with reading the Bible in a year. New year's eve we were discussing this issue with some friends and he suggested I try reading the Bible in a month, 2 months or 3 months. I am a bit ADD and the little bits every day didn't help with it so thought this might be a good idea! I did a search on google and found several different ways. I decided to start first on OT so divided the # of pages in the OT by 31. It sounds like a lot of reading but found that I am able to get thru the boggy parts much better reading them at 1 or 2 setting instead of for a month or 2! Figure even if I don't get all those pages read each day I might have the OT read in 2 months. I am at the end of Leviticus now.
