(We are 3/4 done the Hobbit.) I can notice my children try to mimic the expression I use when I read to them, when they in turn read to me or each other. The vocabulary that they are using at their ages far exceeds that of their friends as well.Melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10117516232635789178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6017574612694606892.post-16168259126347919882011-04-09T22:12:20.976-05:002011-04-09T22:12:20.976-05:00My mom used to read aloud to us all the time too. ...My mom used to read aloud to us all the time too. It was usually chapter books from the church library! Gauranteed they are still there too :) Some of my best memories are of sitting with my mom while she read to me. I've started reading aloud more to my girls even though it is difficult at this age. JJ usually grabs the book from me, closes it and say " EEEE END!" We will get there though. Just wanted to leave a comment and say I miss you blogging more often. It's nice to know that there's more value to it than I realized.Miriamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08764103317419913495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6017574612694606892.post-84548965767659551212011-04-06T16:07:31.723-05:002011-04-06T16:07:31.723-05:00Ah yes. My grade 12 son wanted me to rub his back while I read, but we read David Copperfield, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Count of Monte Cristo, For Whom the Bell Tolls in the high school years. These were thick volumes that might have intimidated even my very good readers, but we LOVED these classics. I think I've always been a good oral reader, but we grew into these books through the years. I used Sonlight Curriculum a lot, which is very reading oriented. However in the highschool years they didn't include read-alouds - so I'd just look at the list of books we were to read in the year and set aside some to be our read-alouds. I probably read aloud at least an hour a day - and absolutely loved it. You will too! And you'll get those snuggles in with boys who won't be as cuddly as they grow up!Sylviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09470323937619329987noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6017574612694606892.post-17096867741833742712011-04-05T07:24:26.473-05:002011-04-05T07:24:26.473-05:00gotcha! and im so glad you reminded me of the boxc...gotcha! and im so glad you reminded me of the boxcar children series I LOVED that when i was a kid! I notice immediately when my kids are starting to hang out around other children as they copy their sayings, expressions, pronounciations, etc. This is not always bad but is not generally correct or sophisticated. Does that make sense?Chantelle - ThousandSquareFeethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06305927922846880598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6017574612694606892.post-69559375685857539582011-04-04T20:47:03.657-05:002011-04-04T20:47:03.657-05:00me and the girls are having a blast reading the or...me and the girls are having a blast reading the original peter pan at the moment, not sure who's enjoying it more me or the girls! btw what did you mean by in school "no wonder their language is what it is!"??Ashleehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13437154136644990940noreply@blogger.com
